Belonging

Fremont Park​​

The City of Glendale’s Library, Arts & Culture Department officially celebrated the unveiling of Belonging, a vibrant new column tile artwork designed by artist Cara Lynch, at a dedication ceremony held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Fremont Park. Commissioned as part of the Fremont Park Renovation Project, this permanent installation brings a meaningful artistic element to the newly reimagined space. Inspired by native wildflower fields, Belonging celebrates the local landscape and community through a rich vocabulary of pattern, color and form. The design draws on California’s diverse flora and incorporates nods to quilting and decorative traditions to invoke themes of home and family.

ReflectSpace in Glendale Central Library​​

ReflectSpace at Glendale Central Library is pleased to present Dreams Gather Here, a solo exhibition by Rachel Hakimian Emenaker. The exhibition explores how the cultural memory of diasporic communities is preserved in the history of material objects. Moving across geographies that include Armenia, Syria, Russia, South America, and the United States, Emenaker’s work reflects on how people, objects, and gestures carry memory through time, forming the foundations of new futures and new cities.

Neighborhood Ecology

Brand Library & Art Center

On exhibit January 31 – May 9, 2026

 

Brand Library & Art Center presents Neighborhood Ecology to pay homage to Southern California and the dynamic communities that is made up of diverse and vibrant neighborhoods. Neighborhood Ecology brings together a group of local artists whose work underscores different aspects of Southern California's surroundings through different mediums to explore its flora and fauna, historic manmade landmarks, passionate residents, and more. The exhibition will include works by Andrea Bersaglieri, Jonathan Casella, Christopher Chinn, Baha Danesh, Susan Feldman, Aroussiak Gabrielian, Jazmin Garcia, Josh Hash, IBARRA, Fredrik Lidskog/Impermanent Art, Megan Mueller, Jynx Prado, Felix Quintana and Jaime Scholnick.

The City of Glendale aims to become an arts and culture destination in the Los Angeles metropolitan region and seeks to further enrich the day-to-day experiences of the community with its emphasis on the importance of arts and culture. The goal for all three artwork opportunities is to create world-class public artwork in a diverse range of mediums that are designed to engage the community, and showcase the cultural diversity of the City and enhance the various civic and public spaces.

Arts Vibrancy Index 2025

Announced January 2026​​​

SMU DataArts, the National Center for Arts Research, has released its 10th annual ranking of the most arts-vibrant communities in the United States, which identifies Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale as number 12 in the list of 100 core-based statistical areas for 2025. The ranking is based on SMU DataArts’ Arts Vibrancy Index (AVI), which is developed through a data-driven approach that analyzes the levels of supply, demand, and government support for the arts using data from more than 900 communities across the country. The City of Glendale, along with its neighbors Los Angeles and Long Beach, has consistently appeared on the Arts Vibrancy Index since the rankings launched in 2015, thanks to the programming efforts of the Glendale Library, Arts and Culture department.

Hyper SoCal Initiative

Announced December 2025​​​

Brand Library & Art Center announces the launch of Hyper SoCal, a new initiative created to promote and celebrate the artistic talent of the Southern California region. Spotlighting exhibitions and programs at over 40 community arts spaces across five Southern California counties, Hyper SoCal is a partnership of nonprofit and municipal art venues supporting local working artists. These institutions occupy a key element of the Southern California art landscape, often showcasing work that would otherwise be unsuitable for commercial or larger spaces. In highlighting these smaller art venues, Hyper SoCal seeks to introduce visitors to the large community of contemporary artists producing innovative and engaging art in their own neighborhoods.

Viajero Del Tiempo/Time Traveler

ReflectSpace in Glendale Central Library​​

Viajero Del Tiempo/Time Traveler is a solo exhibition of first-generation Colombian-American artist Carolyn Castaño, whose work reflects her experience as the daughter of immigrants. Castaño draws on her late father’s photographic archive to account for the fragility and ephemerality of memory and identity to contrast the landscape in consideration of how the land fits in the trajectory and memory of the migrant/immigrant.

Día de Los Muertos Celebration

Glendale Central Library

November 1, 2025​​

The City of Glendale's Library, Arts & Culture hosted an annual celebration for the Day of the Dead, commonly known as Día de Los Muertos.  This free, family-friendly event offered various cultural activities such as a performance lineup of local talents, an ofrenda, face painting, and free food to join as a community for the beautiful holiday.

Reimagining Algorithms: Cultural Heritage in the Age of AI was an exhibition that underscored how artists re-think and re-conceptualize culture while also shedding light on how technology can be utilized for harm. The exhibition was based on infusing art, research, and audacious technological means that recognized how algorithms can be abused while also re-inventing culture with contemporary technological thoughts.

Glendale Library, Arts & Culture Announces Art Installations​​

The City of Glendale's Library, Arts & Culture announces three upcoming public art projects throughout Glendale - Our Garden Spot by Kassia Rico, Hahamongna by Forma Studio, and Belonging by Cara Lynch. Each cultural landmark is inspired by the rich history and diverse culture within the community and will be located on Honolulu Avenue, Glenoaks Boulevard, and at Fremont Park.

Jewel City Concert Series

The Jewel City Concert Series is an outdoor concert series located in the Downtown Arts & Entertainment District. Concert attendees bring their own chairs and enjoy music on the Paseo. The Jewel City Concert Series began in 2017 to celebrate the renovation and reopening of Glendale's Downtown Central Library, and is sponsored by the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission through funding from the Urban Art Program and with support from the Glendale Library, Arts & Culture.

Brand Summer Music Series

Performances run Fridays from July 11 - August 29, 2025

The Brand Summer Music Series is an outdoor concert series located at the Brand Library & Art Center. Concert attendees often bring their own chairs and picnic amenities and sit on the grassy hill. The Brand Summer Music Series began in 2014 and is supported by the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission, through funding from the Urban Art Program, with support from Glendale Library, Arts & Culture, Glendale Community Services & Parks, and the Brand Associates.

Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station Exhibits

The Adams Square Mini Park project was completed by the City of Glendale in an effort to create a green space in the center of the business district for the densely populated Adams Hill neighborhood and to incorporate the historic 1936 Streamline Moderne Gas Station. The Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station is 12’x12’x12' cube with acrylic windows on all four sides. Exhibits are displayed on a rotational basis every six weeks.

One Book, One Glendale

One Book, One Glendale is a community reading program bringing together the City of Glendale to read Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow this summer! Author Gabrielle Zevin discusses the New York Times bestseller and our One Book, One Glendale selection. Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a glorious and immersive novel about two childhood friends, once estranged, who reunite as adults to create video games, finding an intimacy in digital worlds that eludes them in their real lives.

Opulent Mobility: Re-Imagine Disability and Mobility

Brand Library & Art Center is proud to present Opulent Mobility, curated by founder A. Laura Brody and Anthony Tusler in collaboration with students from Glendale Unified School District (GUSD). Founded in 2015, Opulent Mobility has been hosting annual open calls for artworks which tell stories that humanize, uplift, and celebrate disabled artists and disability art. The events have built a community of artists and activists who place disability issues at the forefront of their endeavors. The exhibition features Southern California-based artists with artworks in a variety of media including sculpture, painting, video, audio and fiber.

Glendale Library, Arts & Culture hosted a conversation with Nancy Kricorian and Shahé Mankerian to discuss her latest book, The Burning Heart of the World. In vivid, poetic prose, Nancy Kricorian’s The Burning Heart of the World tells the story of a Beirut Armenian family before, during, and after the Lebanese Civil War. Leavened with humor and imbued with the timelessness of a folktale, The Burning Heart of the World is a sweeping saga that takes readers on an epic journey from the mountains of Cilicia to contemporary New York City.

Embracing Diasporic Art: Portraits of Joan Agajanian Quinn

Embracing Diasporic Art: Portraits of Joan Agajanian Quinn at ReflectSpace presents thirty-five original portraits of Quinn made by diasporic, immigrant, and culturally diverse artists. Selected from Quinn’s personal art collection and archive of over three hundred works, the exhibition highlights a distinct part of each artists’ unique story and how they capture Quinn’s vital and enduring presence. The exhibition extends into the PassageWay, where Quinn’s own snapshots reveal her instinct for documenting intimate moments with legendary figures like Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
